Obama-Biden gun violence Plan and GOP reactions. Rubio is on his way of Ryanisation : rooted before even started.

Open Sesame.

Yesterday was another big day : president Obama and the vice president Biden honored the people with a gun plan aiming at “making it easier to keep guns out of the hands of criminals by strengthening the background check system,” the president articulated, in accordance with the sustainable development’s fundamental principles. Prevention, Precaution, Responsibility, solidarity now and with the future generations, a short and long termed balanced approach are those principles.

Following that same principles, the president went on saying “We will help schools hire more resource officers if they want them, and develop emergency preparedness plans. We will make sure mental health professionals know their options for reporting threats of violence, even as we acknowledge that someone with a mental illness is far more likely to be a victim of violent crime than the perpetrator.”

Obama also pledged to direct the Centers for Disease Control to study the causes of gun violence, noting, “We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science of this epidemic of violence.”

The general philosophy of the plan, wrapped up by the vice president goes like this :

After hearing from Americans from across the political spectrum, we decided to focus on some key priorities : closing background check loopholes, banning military-style assault weapons, making our schools safer, and increasing access to mental health services.

The ideas we sent to President Obama are straightforward. Each of them honors the rights of law-abiding, responsible Americans to bear arms. Some of them will require action from Congress ; the President is acting on others immediately. But they’re all commonsense and will help make us a little safer.

Now is the time for all of us to act.

Here’s what we’ve put together, the vice president Biden adds :

We’re calling for requiring background checks for all gun sales and closing the loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to make their purchase without going through one of these checks.

We’re asking for a new, stronger ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that allow a shooter to fire dozens of bullets as quickly as he can pull a trigger. And we’re asking Congress to help protect law enforcement by make it illegal for members of the public to possess armor-piercing bullets.

We’re going to give law enforcement more tools and resources to prevent and prosecute gun crimes, and we’re going to end the freeze on gun violence research that prevents the Center from Disease Control from looking at the causes of gun violence.

We’re calling on Congress to help make schools safer by putting up to 1,000 school resource officers and mental health professionals in schools and ensuring they have comprehensive emergency management plans in place.

And we’re going to increase coverage so that students and young adults can get access to the mental health treatment they may need.

We know that no policy we enact or law we enforce can prevent every senseless act of violence in our country. But if we can save the life of even one child, we have a deep responsibility to act.

GOP’s contradiction flurry did not take long

First. Newsmax is reporting South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said an assault weapon ban « has already been tried and failed, » adding,« When it comes to protecting our schools, I believe the best way to confront a homicidal maniac who enters a school is for them to be met by armed resistance from a trained professional.”

Senator Graham and senator McCain are more of the same GOP’s extremists that went unashamedly behind Ambassador Susan Rice to impeach her as the next American Secretary of State. Their sectarianism is publicly known and disqualifying as well. So we will not give that much consideration of this, as it is business as usual and more of the same as senator McCain sharp rhetoric.

Then you have that other extreme ideologic position from Senator Rubio. Very deceptive and disappointing.

Quote from Newsmax again. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said none of the Obama proposals introduced would have prevented the Dec. 14 bloodshed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 school children and six adults were killed.

« President Obama is targeting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence,” Rubio said in a statement. “Rolling back responsible citizens’ rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill. »

Rubio argued that the real problem with gun violence in America centered on the mentally ill, and that the White House should focus instead on keeping guns out of their hands.

First reaction here is : show me that ? Where are your statistics to prove this ? We expect Senator Rubio to sent them to the « State of the Union » – CNN for instance or any other channel or program to be commented after the week-end of the Inauguration we are entering in. May be Candy Crowley would invite Senator Rubio to prove his sayings. Until then, they are unsalable for at least two reasons.

The blatant contradiction between senator Marc Rubio’s assertion « the real problem with gun violence in America centered on the mentally ill, and that the White House should focus instead on keeping guns out of their hands. » and the quote of president Obama is sharp.

Previously, the President had said  :

“We will make sure mental health professionals know their options for reporting threats of violence, even as we acknowledge that someone with a mental illness is far more likely to be a victim of violent crime than the perpetrator.”

In addition,

Obama also pledged to direct the Centers for Disease Control to study the causes of gun violence, noting, “We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science of this epidemic of violence.”

The question is : is a mentally ill the perpetrator or the victim ? Second. Until further notice, the best way to be sure someone would not use a gun remains to keep it out of its hand. Some precisions are missing here.

“We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science of this epidemic of violence.”

Then we have senator Rubio again : none of the Obama proposals introduced would have prevented the Dec. 14 bloodshed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 school children and six adults were killed. This is typically the king of argumentation known in Political Speech Studies as baseless and groundless.

Either you consider that the response to shootings is more heavy and military arms at sale and at disposal and you are totally wrong as every citizen is not a Sherif ; either you’re pertinently fooling people ignoring the power of prevention that goes like this : once you make it harder for people to buy guns by lots of preventive checks, you are on the way of diminishing the global stock of guns in circulation. And, failing a magic bullet, no quick fixes are available right now. This is a process which will be judged in the longer term. No serious or sincere politics can stand today and support the kind of unsubstantiated argumentation senator Rubio is bringing into the debate.

Senator Rubio position must be evaluated on a different scale : he is playing politics and his presidential primary’s future. Being one of the purported contender for the 2016 racing, he is profiling his presidential image. Paul Ryan experience is worth recalling here. During the campaign, he, the co-runner walked the harder line than Romney over pro-choice insisting no derogation should be made to go on abortion. Romney has to recall three derogations : incest, rape and if the life of the mother is at risk. Later on, Paul Ryan had to take it into account.

The episod suffice to damage Paul Ryan’s smart and healthy promising political figure, during the presidential race. He learnt from that : his debate with Joe Biden was a good performance in which he made up lost time about his position over pro-life choice. The surprise then was : how is it a 63 old man, Romney can be more moderate than a young Adonis as Ryan with that Kennedy’s so seductive look ?

You have the same picture today between Rubio’s ideological assertions and Speaker Boehner statement :

House Speaker John Boehner was more reserved in his reaction to the Obama plan.“House committees of jurisdiction will review these recommendations, » Boehner’s spokesman, Michael Steel told Politico. « And if the Senate passes a bill, we will also take a look at that. »

If you have thought like I did the new GOP generation would be better than their elders, then you are starting really doubting.

Rubio should recall that his first and real obstacle is Paul Ryan not President obama or Democrats. Having gone through the ordeal of fire, Paul Ryan has learnt a lot. And, as the intelligent politician and man he is, Senator Rubio’s arguments show unfortunately the Senator is far from matching the task as Paul Ryan is. Too much homework to do until 2015 to upgrade.

GOP MIRED IN PLAIN CONTRADICTORY STATEMENTS

What lies ahead with the spending cuts debate, should America need more officers at schools and what about cuts on Medicare GOP’s had fought against to bring it down at the Supreme Court ? How do you care and cure mental illness without a strenghtened Medicare ? Here is the one million dollars question baby. Ah han.

We are keen to hear Senator Rubio interesting response to that and to see what comes next with the House’s spending cuts Alibaba proposals.

Open Sesame. We are impatient to see this.

In this expectation, we wish all the American people a very good time for the Inauguration festivities and the special Dr Martin Luther King Jr. day of service ; and for the nuclear moment of January the 21st when the President will take Oath. Great moments indeed in sight. Until then, no more politics.

To the President and the Vice President, congratulations again for the presidential VICTORY and best wishes for the next 4 years.
